There was nothing at stake in last Sunday’s game against Cavan in Hyde Park except pride in the jersey. Still, it was nice to win it. A win is a win, and you could notice the difference it made to Roscommon supporters as they walked away from Hyde Park after the game.

The second-half display of the Roscommon U-21 team against Sligo in Kiltoom on Saturday afternoon last must rank among one of the finest ever given by a team wearing the primrose and blue. I haven’t been as proud of a Roscommon team since the September evening in Ennis in 2006 when Roscommon beat Kerry in the All-Ireland minor final replay.

Humiliation! I cannot think of any other word to describe the slaughtering Roscommon received at the hands of Armagh in Crossmaglen on Sunday. I pride myself in having a fairly long memory, but I never remember a Roscommon team losing a national league match by 24 points before.
