Comments on Western Rail Corridor ‘misleading’

Dear Editor,
In the interests of accuracy and “truth in the news”, I wish to correct the misleading letter from Mr John Mulligan in your edition of January 24th in which he incorrectly inferred that Minister Varadkar had said on the Prime-time programme, recently broadcast by RTE, that the Athenry to Claremorris railway “would not now be built” or that “this project has been cancelled”.

Dear Editor:
Farm incomes rose by 27 percent last year, with average farm incomes up to €21,500 which corroborates an upbeat survey by the Irish Farmers’ Association (IFA), Farm Income Review 2011, which provides an economic and statistical analysis of farm incomes.

Challenging the hideous household charge

Dear Editor
As the campaign against payment of the €100 household charge gathers momentum, with a payment deadline of March 31st, and TDs publicly stating they will not pay the charge, while calling on other citizens to do likewise like any mutt in a rut, in the spirit of Dr Martin Luther King and Mahatma Gandhi, I’m fecked if I’m going to pay this hideous charge, even though opponents of the charge who refuse to pay risk having a fine of up €2,500 deducted from their wages or welfare payments to avoid lengthy court proceedings.

Hospital A&E closure data is disputed

Dear Editor,
Data supporting the closure of Roscommon’s A&E unit were challenged by leading oncologist Senator John Crown saying the Government maintained official data showing there was a 25 per cent mortality rate after a heart attack in Roscommon hospital compared to a 5 per cent rate in Galway hospital.
