Gaels reach semi-finals in Kerry

Roscommon Gaels proved its ability to compete with the top teams in Ireland to reach the men’s semi-finals of the Comórtas Peile Páidí Ó Sé in Ventry, West Kerry recently.

The competition, sponsored by Tayto and supported by Lee Strand Milk and EBS Building Society, attracted 16 team in beautiful spring sunshine. Roscommon Gaels defeated O’Rahilly’s of Louth to reach the semifinal of the tournament.

However, the Roscommon town club only had 18 players in total and two games in one day took its toll on the young players in the semi-final against Cooley Kickhams. The Louth side prevailed by five points, 1-12 to 0-10.

The Roscommon Gaels players cooled down with a swim in the sea straight after the semi-final at An Gaeltacht GAA grounds before staying to enjoy the social side of the weekend in Paidi’s pub on Saturday night. A repeat of last year’s men’s final saw Dingle living up to their favourites tag by beating Cooley Kickhams by five points, 012 to 0-7.

The ladies’ final was a one-sided affair with Mountmellick of Laois dominating Mayo’s Carncon despite the best efforts of All-Star Cora Staunton who managed all but two of her club’s six points.
